How to Choose Right 3-Phase Gear Motor (Parallel Shaft)

ac-small-gear-reducer-factory

If you are unsure which parallel shaft gear motor model you need, follow these steps to ensure proper selection and reliable operation.

Step 1 – Determine Required Speed and Gear Ratio

Identify the operating speed of your machine. Then calculate the reduction ratio of the gear motor based on the required output speed:

Reduction Ratio = Motor Speed ÷ Required Machine Speed

  • Example: If the motor is 1500 rpm and the machine needs 100 rpm, the ratio ≈ 1500/100 = 15:1.
  • Choose a standard ratio close to your calculation (e.g., 15, 20, 25…).

Step 2 – Calculate Load Torque and Select Motor Output

Estimate the torque required at the output shaft considering load type, duty cycle, and safety margin (typically 1.2–1.5×).

  • Select a reducer and motor combination whose rated output torque and power meet or exceed your requirement.
  • Confirm the matching three-phase asynchronous motor (voltage, frequency, efficiency class, insulation, IP rating).

Step 3 – Confirm Additional Functions

Check whether your application needs any of the following options:

  • Brakes: power-off brake / power-on brake
  • Speed Control: inverter (VFD) or fixed-speed version
  • Mounting & Frame: special frame size, hollow/solid shaft, keyway, flange
  • Environment: low temperature, high humidity, food-grade, or other special conditions

Confirm these features with our technical team before ordering so we can produce to your exact requirements.
